In Limbo In Limbe

by Mike Loomis
June 8, 2010

As I was afraid, we will not be going to Mundemba until tomorrow. The vehicle we are going to use has had some mechanical problems and the repairs will not be completed until later today. We don't want to travel at night, so we will (I hope) get an early start tomorrow morning. It is good that the problems showed up before we left.

Some good news, though, is that the three new collars we are taking into the field are all functioning perfectly. [Remember that, during the January 2010 mission, both of our collars failed to function when they were switched on; read more about those events here.] I was really pleased with the satellite reports of the three collars. We also tested the UHF receiver on the two newest collars, and they both worked well. We still have an old collar that won't shut off; we banged the collar around a bit and replaced the magnetss, so hopefully it will stop transmitting soon.

Our hope and plan is to get on the road tomorrow.
