Page 1 : A Word About Paper-Based Methods

Field Trip Earth is fundamentally a "technology-integration" project, in that it requires educators and students to use the Internet in order to access most of its features and content. However, there's no reason that teachers who use more traditional teaching strategies cannot integrate the site into their day-to-day teaching as well. Field Trip Earth provides a wealth of information for teachers wishing to utilize paper-based learning activities, such as puzzles, simulations and games, vocabulary-building, and other strategies, with their students.

By way of example, this article outlines Far Traveler, a packet of paper-based materials developed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Red Wolf Coalition A variety of reading materials and worksheet exercises are included in this packet. The basic information used in developing Far Traveler can be found throughout the Field Trip Earth site. We recommend that teachers use the Far Traveler model and build their own paper-based activities for elephants, Atlantic sea turtles, and other species appearing on the site.

We also encourage teachers to share those packets with Field Trip Earth. If you would like to share your website-related paper activites, please use the website's feedback tool to contact us.
